Conte's supporters are cold on the encore, while AVS will open with Bonelli and Fratoianni. The Democratic Party secretary: "A broad field is essential, let's discuss the program."

Florence, July 9, 2025 – Luckily, phone companies have cleared data plans with unlimited minutes, given how hot cell phones have become for the Democratic Party . Time is running out, and with 94 days to go until the regional elections, the day's summary is as follows: in the morning, Elly Schlein hammers home the plan of plans from the Nazareno (“In the six regions voting, a stubbornly united criterion”), late in the afternoon, the 5 Star Movement chills the progressive front (“Tuscany is the most difficult game, Giani doesn't warm hearts”), and in the evening, Schlein lets the candidacy dossier simmer in the quintessential red stronghold. “I'm sure we'll be able to find an agreement in Puglia and Campania too, because the stakes are too high to divide us. We'll soon be able to announce the names that will be running, following the agreement reached in the Marche.” The secretary, with good reason, didn't mention Tuscany , evidently informed of the checkmate of outgoing governor Giani at the expense of regional secretary Emiliano Fossi , thus building a wall with the secretariat. The bilateral meeting at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati demolished the strategy of the previous day, put into action by Elly, Fossi, and Furfaro 's loyalists ("Giani is our president"). Normalization has turned into tension, with statute disputes. Giani has ridden the wave. of the polls who give him the victory in the first round against Melonian Tomasi , endorsed by camel troops, unions and more than 100 mayors from Lunigiana to Maremma passing through Florence after the blessing of Sara Funaro (Schleinians, reformists and civic leaders), before hand-delivering to Fossi - together with a certified email, to be safe - the formal letter of "availability for an encore".

The result? Once again, in the morning, the Democratic Party secretary evades the microphones. In the evening, to get out of his corner, he reconvenes the secretariat as soon as possible. Meanwhile, he "thanks" Giani for his willingness to run again, announcing that he will "make it available" to potential allies, "aware that the next steps are first to build the program and the coalition, and then to choose a common candidate." Fossi repeats the refrain, the broad field above all else because "it is a prerequisite for being stronger in Tuscany and competitive nationally." Giani, for his part, offers himself "within the rules of the coalition and the party, which asks me to express my willingness so that the regional leadership complies with Articles 24 and 31 of the national and regional statutes." In other words: there is no time for coalition primaries, no alternatives for party primaries, and the reversal in favor of the long knives, given that a "no" from at least 60% of eligible voters would be needed. Not only that , but there's also the unwelcome rush forward at Nazareno when the president preempts his programmatic priorities (even though they share the substance): medically assisted end-of-life care in tandem with a fight for rights in the healthcare system, public water in defiance of Multiutility and the mixed public-private formula with which AIT will launch the tender for the water service, and that social income that smacks of the citizen's income so dear to the 5 Star Movement. A trio that strongly hints at the "discontinuity" also called for by Avs. Green Party leader Bonelli is open and gloats because "from now on we are available to engage in a programmatic discussion with Giani. " Fratoianni also says he's "ready for the discussion," considering Giani's suggestions "useful." But in Beppe Conte 's house, there's "dismay" at the Democratic Party's modus operandi : "They're doing everything themselves," the murmur goes. "They promised us new themes and new leaders, not another season of reformism with Renzi's supporters. Giani is showing that he's the president for all seasons, and he's winning hands down over Nazareno."
