UDC: De Poli new secretary, Cesa president

Antonio De Poli is the new national secretary of the UDC. The party's national council, meeting today at the Crowne Plaza in Rome, unanimously elected him by acclamation. His nomination was proposed by the outgoing secretary, Lorenzo Cesa , who received a prolonged applause from the audience for his commitment and dedication in leading the Union of the Center through difficult years.

"Lorenzo was the guardian of our history and our values. We owe him our full gratitude. I am committed to carrying on his political legacy with respect, enthusiasm, and determination," De Poli said.

After more than twenty years of uninterrupted commitment, Cesa has chosen to make this historic change in the spirit of responsibility and continuity. "It's a transition," Cesa stated in his speech. "Our party is strong, cohesive, deeply rooted, and capable. I will continue to be present, as president, with consistency and discretion to continue advising and supporting the party."

In his speech, Cesa retraced the key milestones of his more than twenty years at the helm of the UDC: commitment to families, social justice, defense of the most vulnerable, expansion of access to healthcare, development and support for businesses, development of local communities, and defense of European and Atlantic democratic values. "A political and value-based legacy that has helped consolidate the presence of the Unione di Centro in the Italian and European political landscape," a statement explained.

The National Council "welcomed Cesa's words with prolonged applause, expressing deep gratitude for his dedication and recognizing the value of a leadership that has combined the party's democratic values with its deep local roots and its spirit of service for the good of our country," the statement concludes.
