007, Mortal Kombat, Silent Hill and all the other announcements from Sony's latest State of Play

Whether it was positioned to inaugurate the usual summer season of video game announcements or to annoy the launch of the Switch 2, this State of Play of June has managed to mix a bit of everything that is today in the world of video games: some good ideas hidden in the smaller projects, large productions in the pipeline for some time that are slowly coming to fruition, so much nostalgia. was one of these: 50 minutes full of nostalgia, hype and a few surprises that - let's face it - made us want to turn off our brains and turn on the console.
007 First LightFirst Light, the new James Bond game developed by IO Interactive, the Hitman saga creators, was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the evening. Apparently, we won't be playing the role of an expert spy, but we'll be taking our first steps in his legend. No standard Aston Martins or pressed tuxedos, at least not right away: we'll be a young, bold Bond, fresh out of the Royal Navy who just needs to put all his energy into some dangerous mission.
In the trailer we see him being forcefully recruited by an MI6 that is more concerned about the trouble he could cause than his potential. They give him his first mission: to track down Agent 009. The rest – how he will become “007” – is history yet to be written, or rather, played.
The gameplay style clearly reflects the legacy of Hitman, so it is played in third person, with missions with a clear objective but that will leave room for our interpretation. We can act discreetly or blow everything up, strangle a guard in the shadows or start a firefight, deciding what kind of Bond we want to be. All of this obviously spiced up with exclusive locations, gadgets, chases and deadly women, otherwise what kind of Bond would he be?
Marvel T?kon: Fighting SoulsIf you love competitive fighting games, you're probably familiar with Arc System Works. The masters of aerial combos are developing a Marvel fighting game . T?kon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag team that brings together the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and Doctor Doom in a celebration of color, effects, and comic book cover poses. The release is set for 2026, but the anime aesthetic and the developers' pedigree are already enough to raise expectations among the entire fan scene.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice ChroniclesAnd here we are at the first nostalgic moment: Final Fantasy Tactics returns in a new version entitled The Ivalice Chronicles. This is not a simple remaster, but a re-release with full dubbing, a renewed UI and a graphical facelift that respects the original. A “classic mode” is also planned with the translation of War of the Lions and some modern conveniences (such as automatic saving). A gift for those who in the 90s got lost in this beautiful strategic game set in the atmosphere of Final Fantasy that still remains a rarely equaled gem. We hope it will also appeal to the new generations eager for something older than them.
Silent Hill fThe next Silent Hill nightmare is ready to manifest itself on September 25, 2025. Silent Hill f, developed by NeoBards, promises a descent into the subtlest and most floral fears of rural Japan, with a female protagonist and an atmosphere that seems to have come out of a nightmare written by Junji Ito. The strange and awkward figures that mix Japanese schoolgirls and bloody blades were enough to make us want to escape. But if it's horror you're looking for, then you won't be able to do without it. It all seems foggy, disturbing and bloody as a chapter of the saga should be.
Metal Gear Solid DeltaThe remake of MGS3: Snake Eater , renamed Delta, shows off new footage and an imminent release: August 2025. Nostalgia is powerful, but so are expectations, because we are talking about one of the key titles of the saga (but aren't they all, in the end?) Konami will have to demonstrate that it can still honor Kojima's legacy, without slipping into fan fiction of itself and above all without annoying all those who would have preferred him to be the only one to deal with a story that he shaped with his own hands. Will it be lèse-majesté or celebration? We'll see.
Lumines AriseThe psychedelic wizards at Enhance Games are back. Lumines Arise promises a synesthetic experience in the vein of Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite: puzzles and rhythm dancing together in an audiovisual flow that will end up hypnotizing us. A Tomorrowland-style performance to experience at home, scheduled for PS5 and PSVR 2 this fall. Proof that musical puzzles still have something to say and don't have to be just a memory of a time when Sony had a more experimental approach to the genre.
PragmataLook who's back! Announced way back in 2020 and then disappeared as often happens with titles that focus so much on mystery, Pragmata reappears with a release date: 2026. Little gameplay, a lot of sci-fi atmosphere, and that mysterious little girl in space who looks at us with eyes too human to be just a side element. Maybe it's still too early to understand what Pragmata will be, but at least now we know that it still exists, we know that for now it seems like a third-person action game where we will play a guy in powered armor who must protect (or be protected?) by this little girl. And in this world of suddenly canceled projects that's no small thing.
Nioh 3When talking about feudal Japan, the name Tokugawa is one of the most cited and Team Ninja did not miss the opportunity to reinvent the story of this historical figure. Nioh 3 will arrive in early 2026 with its mix of slashes, perfect parries, monsters, samurai and everything that cannot be missing in these titles that look towards the North Star of From Software and its unsurpassed Sekiro. And we will be the ones to play the role of a Tokugawa who is still young and without a throne, but with a great desire to slice men and yokai. There is already a demo on PS5 to quench your thirst for katanas and millimeter parries.
Bloodstained: The Scarlet EngagementKoji Igarashi and his team are back to tell the story of what happened before Ritual of the Night. The Scarlet Engagement is a prequel , with new characters and a new cursed fortress to explore. Due out in 2026, it seems ready to reiterate that Metroidvanias are still here to have their say, even if it seems like they've said everything they can say.
Romeo is a Dead ManSuda 51 is a name and a guarantee in the world of Japanese development. If you see his name you can expect a completely crazy story, music at full blast and an action title with blood and madness, but also a particular artistic vein. Romeo is a Dead Man seems to be exactly this: another sliver of madness from Grasshopper Manufacture.
Sea of RemnantsAre you fed up with pirate games ? We hope not because Sea of Remnants is exactly that: an adventure in a colorful ocean full of ships, swords, third-person combat, fearsome enemies, cannons and sirens. Coming in 2026.
Tides of TomorrowHere too the atmosphere is somewhat nautical but the idea is completely different. We are talking about an asymmetric multiplayer game in which the world around us will react based on the choices of those who played before us, whether it is a famous streamer or a friend. Once we have chosen the point of view from which to experience the story, we might come across enemies who are angry with us for the simple fact that someone we know has treated them badly, or we could discover secret passages revealed by those who came before us. Interesting, we will see how it evolves.
Digimon Story Time StrangerThose who grew up on bread and Agumon will be happy: Digimon Story Time Stranger comes out on October 3rd. New Digimon, a story between two worlds and turn-based combat. It won't change the history of JRPGs, but it will warm many digital hearts. Also because Digimon lovers are everywhere, maybe they won't be in full view like those who prefer Pikachu and company, but they are a very loyal fanbase.
Mortal Kombat Legacy KollectionDigital Eclipse gets their hands on the history of the bloodiest saga ever . Legacy Kollection is a celebratory box set with arcade versions, developer interviews and a love for bloody pixels. The collection includes over 20 different versions, including arcade, home console and portable, including Mortal Kombat 1-4 and the Game Boy Advance chapters Deadly Alliance and Tournament Edition, and more to be revealed. For nostalgic and historians of the fighting game... and for those who still get excited listening to the beautiful unofficial soundtrack of the first film.
And then…Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow brings the iconic thief to the virtual world. We'll all be Garrett, but with the visor on our face. Sure, a non-VR game would have been nice, but never mind.
Sword of the Sea arrives on August 19th from the developers of Abzu and Pathless with its underwater aesthetic. Perfect for those who like games that are not too competitive and focus on a more relaxed and ethereal atmosphere.
Cairn , the mountaineering adventure, has a date: November 5. There's already a demo, if you're in the mood for climbing. It could be one of the most interesting games of the year.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is perfect for those who still need pixel art, coming July 31st. It promises side-scrolling brawls and nostalgia.
Hirogami , the origami action game, comes out on September 3rd: fold and fight.
Baby Steps , the wacky walking simulator, is limping toward its September 8 launch, and here too, perhaps, we have a possible “sleeping hit.” It’s certainly a game that critics might love and that will be played a lot on Twitch.
Finally: a fighting stick from SonySony also unveiled Project Defiant, its official fight stick . Wireless, low-latency, ergonomic, it seems to have everything that fans of the genre ask for, but the sector, however small, is definitely crowded with competitors with years of experience.
