News - Nearly 4,000 illegal drugs hidden in luggage and packages seized at Malpensa - Varese News

Intensified checks at Malpensa Airport over the summer led to the seizure of 3,761 irregular, illegally imported drugs that were potentially dangerous to public health.
Drugs hidden in passengers' luggageThe operation was conducted by Malpensa Group's Finance Police in collaboration with officials from the Customs and Monopolies Agency . The checks involved passengers and cargo shipments, using advanced screening technologies and drawing on the experience of operational personnel.
The seized drugs originated abroad, were often unlabeled in Italian, and lacked the required marketing authorizations. Some were hidden inside personal luggage, others in packages declared as containing generic products for personal use.
A danger to public healthThe seized products pose a concrete risk to consumer health, as they may contain incorrect doses of the active ingredient or have been altered. The lack of certification and inspection by the competent health authorities makes these drugs particularly dangerous.
Investigations underwayThe investigation now aims to identify those responsible for trafficking and reconstruct the entire illegal distribution network. The operation is part of a broader customs control plan aimed at protecting product safety and public health, as well as the state's fiscal interests. As required by Legislative Decree No. 188 of November 8, 2021, anyone involved is presumed innocent until convicted.
