Six world records in the blue waters of Riva del Garda
A remarkable performance was achieved in Riva del Garda at the Italian Open Outdoor Freediving Championships, organized by FIPSAS. Six CMAS (World Confederation of Underwater Activities) world records were set, including one Paralympic record. In the waters off the port of San Nicolò di Riva del Garda (Trento), Simona Auteri, Davide Carrera, Martino Valsangiacomo, Alessandro Cianfoni, Anna-Karina Schmitt, and Michele Usai achieved extraordinary performances in constant weight with fins and constant weight without equipment on the lake.
Simona Auteri, a Genoese representative of the Riviera dei Fiori Sub Center, descended to a depth of -79 m in constant weight with fins, beating the previous world record by 3 m. "This is my fourth world record in a lake. The flu of the past few days had sapped my strength and blocked my sinuses. Thanks to alternate-nostril pranayama breathing, I was able to clear my sinuses and complete the entire dive in the best possible way."

Davide Carrera, a Turin native and member of Sub Sinnai, reached a depth of -93 meters in constant weight with fins, breaking the previous world record by 1 meter. "It was a great dive. I'm happy, but I was a little worried about having just returned from the Bahamas, where I participated in the Vertical Blue, and therefore with the jet lag and the accumulated fatigue still to overcome, but fortunately everything went well."
Swiss swimmer Martino Valsangiacomo also dived 93 m in constant weight with fins, setting a world record for the event, along with Carrera.
Alessandro Cianfoni, from Velletri (RM), representing the USS Dario Gonzatti, set a new Paralympic record in constant weight freediving without equipment at a depth of -40 m. "The dive was challenging. The organization was perfect. At one point, a wave came in, which made things more difficult, but also more stimulating. I'm thrilled with this, my first freshwater world record, which I consider an important achievement for the entire national Paralympic movement."
Michele Usai, a member of the Apnea Club Cagliari, is the new world record holder for constant weight without equipment, reaching a depth of -67 meters: "I'm really happy to have achieved this result, for which I trained hard and which I really wanted. It was a beautiful dive, very fluid, and it left me with a wonderful feeling."
The sixth world record of the day was set by Switzerland's Anna-Karina Schmit, who dived to -51 m in constant weight without equipment.
