More than 1.6 million liters of fuel theft seized in Guanajuato

State and federal security forces seized 1.6 million liters of hydrocarbons during a search of a company located along the Silao-San Felipe highway. This represents the largest amount of fuel theft seized in a single incident in the history of Guanajuato.
The operation stemmed from citizen complaints and police intelligence that led to the identification of a network dedicated to the irregular storage and distribution of fuel, the state's Secretariat of Security and Peace reported.
He reported that 735,000 liters of diesel and 940,000 liters of fuel oil were seized, with an estimated value exceeding 30 million pesos, according to current reference prices.
It was stored in nine vertical cistern-type tanks (ranging from 10,000 to 1 million liters), as well as in a fleet of vehicles that included five tankers, four full-size vehicles, three tractor-trailers, and three transport tanks.
He noted that the operation also seized machinery and equipment, including ten transfer pumps, ten dispensers with liter counters, and high-pressure industrial hoses.
The search was the result of an investigation carried out by the State Secretariat of Security and Peace, through the General Commission of the State Public Security Forces (FSPE), in coordination with the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), the National Guard (GN), the Federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) and Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) Physical Security.
Based on the police reports submitted, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office compiled sufficient evidence and requested the judicial authority to issue a search warrant, SSP/596/2025.
The Ministry of Security and Peace indicated that the order was executed in strict compliance with the law, respect for due process, and observance of human rights.
During the investigation, authorities seized 1,675,000 liters of hydrocarbons.
The property, fuel, vehicles, and other evidence found were seized and sealed in accordance with judicial protocols, and are now under the protection of the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office for the continuation of the corresponding ministerial and forensic investigations.
Authorities reported that investigations will continue to determine the possible logistical, financial, and operational networks involved in the collection and sale of illicit hydrocarbons.
"This operation represents a historic blow to the criminal economies dedicated to the illegal extraction and sale of hydrocarbons, and demonstrates the strengthening of police investigation and intelligence capabilities in Guanajuato," the SSyP added in a statement.
