Pilot work on the Abastos-Independencia crossing is progressing; the lane will reopen.

Pilot work on the Abastos-Independencia crossing is progressing; the lane will reopen.

The piloting represents the greatest progress in the construction of the Abastos-Independencia Road System, which will allow for the reopening of east-west traffic along the northbound section of the boulevard by the end of this month. For several weeks, traffic has been maintained in two lanes on the opposite side of the road.

According to the progress report released this week by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Urban Development and Mobility (SIDUM), headed by Miguel Ángel Algara Acosta, the number of cast and excavated piles has increased from 119 to 160. These piles, along with the beams, will form the main structure of the overpass.

The decision was made to expedite the work to provide the necessary support to the wall where a landslide caused by rainwater broke out in early September, thereby ensuring the safety of motorists traveling in the right or lateral lane of the northbound section.

The landslide caused the closure of the body, that is, in the direction of the Centro area from the Abastos roadway, but as progress has been made in placing the piles and caps, it will be ready to reopen.

Algara Acosta also reported that progress has been made with the casting of templates, with 192 pieces, in addition to 456 reinforced piles, 111 cast beams, and 68 assembled and ready for casting.

During the weekly operational meeting held to review progress and plan adjustments as the work progresses, issues related to the underground electricity, telephone, and fiber optic lines located along the project's route were discussed.

In this regard, the Director of Public Works for the Municipality, Juan Adolfo Von Bertrab Saracho, said that although the construction of the Abastos-Independencia Road System is the responsibility of the state government, through SIDUM, the Municipality is involved in all peripheral aspects of the project.

In the case of these induced lines, he indicated that there is ongoing contact with the service companies to reach agreements on how to complete the relocation, as well as to foster a proper coexistence between them and the construction projects.

Particular attention is being paid to the two 113,000-volt power lines that run underground along Independencia Boulevard. That's why a week ago, the heads of SIDUM, Miguel Ángel Algara, and Public Works, Juan Adolfo Von Bertrab, met with CFE personnel to find the best way to coexist with these facilities and the work in progress, as is done with all large-scale infrastructure projects.

The operational meeting also addressed the curb painting and signage work that will be required when traffic reopens on the north side, as well as the relocation of the 42-inch diameter sewer pipe, which is being carried out on the south side of Independencia Boulevard, starting at the Mixteco Junction.

In this case, the general manager of the Municipal Water and Sanitation System (Simas) in Torreón, Roberto Escalante González, also participated.

The Director of Public Works stated that the agency has assigned a crew to check, three times a day, that the warning signs around the work area are not removed or destroyed. It has been detected that people passing through the area remove or destroy them with malicious intent, without considering that this could pose a risk of accidents to those passing through the area.

Regarding traffic assistance, support is maintained by around twenty personnel from the Traffic and Road Safety Department.
