They urge people to report obstructed sidewalks that endanger pedestrians.

The Municipal Department of Territorial Planning and Urban Development urged citizens to report sidewalk obstructions that hinder pedestrian traffic. This is a problem for which surveillance efforts have been undertaken, with sanctions imposed on those who invade these spaces.

The head of the department, Gustavo Muñoz López, announced that all these complaints can be made through the Citizen Assistance Directorate's telephone number 073, or through the surveillance patrols carried out in different sectors of the city.

Through these complaints, we have been able to identify sidewalks that are partially or completely encroached upon, either by metal structures belonging to food businesses, planters that make it difficult for people to walk freely, or even merchandise from established businesses that also display their products to increase sales.

Other obstacles that inspectors have detected on public roads include curbs, stairs, barbecue grills, and the misappropriation of green areas.

The official said patrols have been deployed in the downtown area and in neighborhoods where this problem has been most prevalent. This is due to the need to provide safe conditions for pedestrians, who otherwise have to walk across the stream and risk an accident.

Currently, an average of five reports related to this situation are received per week. Once they are reported, either through the 073 line or during security patrols, an assessment is conducted, and if appropriate, a notification is issued to the responsible party to immediately remove the obstacle.

Muñoz López emphasized that thanks to citizen collaboration and the municipal administration's preventive approach, in most cases, situations are corrected quickly and voluntarily, allowing order to be maintained without the need for coercive measures.
