Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán brings its legacy to the Telmex Auditorium

To talk about our music and everything that it entails - particularly Mexican tradition, roots and history - is to refer to and make a necessary parenthesis, inevitably, in the legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán . With more than a century of history - 126 uninterrupted years - , the historic group has dedicated itself to spreading, preserving, expanding and exploring the art of mariachi in all its possible ramifications, the Mexican genre par excellence that gives us identity and character in the world, and which is one of Jalisco's greatest gifts to Mexico , since mariachi was born in the municipality of Cocula .
Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán has offered more than 12,600 concerts in our country and the rest of the world, reaching remote places and cultures so different from our own, such as Japan . Founded in 1898 by Don Gaspar Vargas , the group grew, transformed, leaving behind representative pieces in mariachi culture, exploring complex chords and influences but never losing its style, oscillating between traditional sones and medleys, to then take the great leap into internationalization, and being awarded some of the greatest awards in music, such as the Grammy . Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, therefore, is already more than tradition: it is a legacy and a history in constant writing.
At the height of their career, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán announced in a press conference attended by EL INFORMADOR , the details of their new tour "El legado Tour 2025-2026" , which, in addition to Mexico, will take them to Spain, Canada and the United States , and will offer the people of Guadalajara an unforgettable night on May 31st at 9:00 p.m. , at the Telmex Auditorium .
"It's going to be a very special day. We've prepared a lot for this concert. We're going to have special guests. We can't give details, but they sing very well. It's going to sound beautiful," said Carlos Martínez, director and violinist of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. "A show where we played songs especially for this concert, where we want to take a musical journey, a legacy—like the name of the tour—to pay tribute to all these past generations. We are currently the sixth generation of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán with more than 120 years of history, and the concert will be an approximate two-and-a-half-hour journey. It's going to be very beautiful, we're going to enjoy it, and people are going to feel very proud to be Mexican. We're going to play songs from our grandparents, from our parents, but this is so cultural that children, young people, and adults can all come and spend a magical evening with Mariachi Vargas."
Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, a tradition of more than a centuryWith 126 years dedicated to the love of mariachi and Mexican culture, Mariachi Vargas has managed to stay afloat in its own essence and vision despite the radical and constant revolutions that music has undergone in the last century. The Mexican musical landscape, like everything else, is in perpetual change, with the regional genre and the "corridos tumbados" currently enjoying popularity. However, regardless of age, personal musical taste, or particular interests, there is no Mexican who doesn't sing and know a mariachi song. It's part of us, it's the music of our roots, it's a unique identity for the world. Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán is what it is by preserving and safeguarding its tradition, while also opening itself up to the modern when required.
"It's a great honor to dedicate myself to this," says the violinist and singer of Mariachi Vargas proudly. "We're the sixth generation. The music has evolved a lot; Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán has maintained its traditions and the essence of being the music of Mexico. Of course, we've done some collaborations; we're open to it; it's something that happens; you don't seek it out; things fall into place."
Mariachi has taken the Jalisco-based group all over the world, from Brazil to Korea ; they have performed alongside artists such as Luis Miguel . For a group like Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán that is already synonymous with quality, this in no way alters the professionalism its members dedicate daily to upholding the tradition they have forged over a century. They never take anything for granted, they never let their guard down, they never let their own name and fame blind them.
Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán makes its professionalism a standard, striving to offer quality concerts wherever they go in the world. In that sense, the group shared their genuine enthusiasm for their upcoming concert at the Telmex Auditorium . An event in Guadalajara: their home.
"Every concert is important to us. We're a mariachi group that has traveled around the world representing our country. We are the flag of Mexico, ambassadors of our music, of the people, of our food," said violinist Daniel Arellano. "We have the blessing of bringing Mexico and Mariachi Vargas to many parts of the world. Of course, it demands a lot from you; being in a mariachi group requires a high level of skill, a lot of professionalism. You grow up with this genre, you grow up with this music. There's nothing but mariachi and partying where we come from. But responsibility and commitment are worth it. People always expect the best from us. And this concert we'll have this Saturday is going to be very special because we've prepared special and specific songs for tonight. It's going to be an unforgettable night. We're going to enjoy the music and the love with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán," he concluded.
