Miguel Suqué Mateu: charisma and conviction

There are people who leave their mark. Who leave memories. Miguel Suqué Mateu was one of those tremendously charismatic people. He inherited this from his parents, Carmen and Arturo, and took over with responsibility and vision.
With his siblings Isabel and Javier, they unitedly led the family group, with an elegant and responsible outlook, and a great deal of courage. Unafraid to face the challenges of the future.
As an entrepreneur, I was very clear about the role that family businesses play in our country. He left us unexpectedly, we never would have imagined. These hours following Miguel's passing, all the messages highlight the ambassadorial role he played. A friend to his friends, and with excellent communication skills.
As a businessman, I was very clear about the role that family businesses play in our country. In a group dedicated primarily to leisure and viticulture, it has always strived to distinguish itself through social responsibility and commitment to the country's institutions.
His conviction in these essences was what mattered most to him. He conveyed it time and again. Respect for others. He passionately defended his point of view, ending with a warm handshake. He stood out for his humanistic leadership style: he had the door open to everyone. He left nothing up in the air, everything was precise. He carried this school of generosity as a learning experience.

These years have not been easy for him at all. And with an exemplary fortitude that we have seen in very few people, he has overcome all the tests his health has put him through, one after another. Like a marathon without respite for breath. And Miguel would get up and fight again. And he also added irony. Life has put him to the test, and he leaves us this lesson of overcoming adversity without regret.
He has passed on the values of hard work, dedication, and cultural patronage to his nephews, to the new generation taking over the leadership of the group, and who have been trained in the key elements of future management in the 21st century.
Miguel Suqué's artistic side is perhaps the least known. Above all, his passion for contemporary art, especially the visual arts: his vision as a portraitist and photographer, which he never sought to flaunt. His photographs reveal his human and social sensitivity, and his keen, observant eye.
He was able to enjoy the inaugural concert of our Easter Festival this past April, and we remember him calling it one of the happiest days of recent memory. He actively contributed to defining the future festival, appreciating all it has meant to the family and the group. He also contributed to discovering the legacy of the museum and the castle collections.

The entire Peralada team, and especially the most veteran, always remember the very young Miguel backstage , enjoying the wings of the festival stage. We especially remember the soprano Montserrat Caballé, who always spoke of the young Miguel, when they imagined forging the Peralada Festival of their dreams. We will dedicate this summer's edition, which will be about eternity and paradise, to his memory. Miguel wasn't much for formality. Just the right protocol, in his own way, to break it and put a smile on his face. Generating his own style, as Frank Sinatra evokes in My Way .
We'll miss you. Rest in peace, dear Miguel. We know you're with us as you always have been.
