SHCP allocates additional resources to support Acapulco

Acapulco's recovery is underway with additional federal resources. During the first quarter of the year, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) added 260.7 million pesos to the Ministry of Tourism's budget, via the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur), for infrastructure improvements.
In addition to creating suitable conditions for the development of the local population and tourists with the Acapulco se Transforma Contigo program, promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the port is beginning to prepare to host the 50th Tourist Tianguis next year.
Given the urgency to complete the work, the Ministry of Tourism, headed by Josefina Rodríguez, submitted a request for funding for various investment programs to the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit last February. Therefore, they were not included in the annual budget of 1.774 billion pesos, although they have already begun to secure funding for the project.
The largest project was the Basic and Tourism Infrastructure Maintenance Intervention, Urban and Tourism Equipment Acapulco is Transformed with You project, which will require a total of 4,965.5 million pesos. In the first quarter, 144.1 million pesos were allocated to begin work.
According to Fonatur, the program consists of maintaining basic and tourist infrastructure, urban and tourist amenities, as well as improving public lighting facilities such as ducts, cables, poles, and lamps. Beach access will be improved, public beaches will be refurbished, and roadworks will be carried out.
This action, he stated, will significantly contribute to the quality of life, safety, and positive perception of the Acapulco tourist destination, creating a solid foundation for sustainable development.
During a working visit to the port last Friday, the President of Mexico highlighted that the director of Fonatur, Lyndia Quiroz, proposed the creation of the Acapulco Integrated Planning Center (CIP) to improve the destination affected by Hurricanes Otis and John.
"It's first-rate. She was the one who said, 'Why don't we bring this scheme, which once worked in Cancún, to other areas like Acapulco?' She's on top of it. Plus, she's not just handling the infrastructure or maintenance, but she and the tourism team are personally serving all the vendors and all the businesses in Acapulco to enhance the commerce, which is something extraordinary that's developing," he explained.
The other program that also has resources (116.6 million pesos, out of a total of 143.9 million pesos) is the Acquisition of transport and cargo vehicles for the conservation and maintenance of the Acapulco CIP, which includes: flatbed trucks, dump trucks, trucks with telescopic cranes and baskets, public lighting, pick-up trucks, garbage collectors, 10,000-liter tankers, suction sweepers, and hydropneumatic equipment for dredging, among others.
Acapulco is beginning preparations to host the 50th annual Tianguis Turístico next year, and the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) has submitted a request to the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (SHCP) for funding for various investment programs.
