Health Knocks on Your Door! Sheinbaum and Delfina Launch Program in Mexico City

A new public health program has been launched in the State of Mexico. The "House-to-House Health" campaign was inaugurated on June 7, 2025, in Ixtapaluca, with the presence of the Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez. The initiative will deploy 1,400 health workers to conduct a census and bring medical services to the vulnerable population.

With the goal of strengthening access to health services and understanding the needs of the people of the State of Mexico firsthand, the "House-to-House Health" program officially launched this Saturday, June 7, 2025. The kickoff was led by the Mayor of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and the Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez Álvarez, at an event held in the municipality of Ixtapaluca.

The "House-to-House Health" initiative involves a considerable logistical and human effort. A contingent of 1,400 health workers will be deployed throughout the State of Mexico, with the mission of visiting homes to conduct a health census. The primary purpose of this census is to gather detailed information on the population's illnesses, treatments, and diagnoses, with a special focus on the most vulnerable sectors.

The joint presence of Claudia Sheinbaum and Delfina Gómez at the launch of this program underscores the inter-institutional collaboration and interest in replicating or adapting successful public health strategies. Medical personnel also approached Claudia Sheinbaum during her visit to Ixtapaluca, presumably to discuss the sector's needs or proposals.

Beyond gathering information, "House to House Health" seeks to:

* Identify specific needs: Understand the most prevalent chronic diseases, barriers to accessing health services, and the socioeconomic conditions that influence family well-being.

* Early detection: Facilitate the timely detection of conditions that, if not treated promptly, can become complicated and generate higher costs for the health system and for patients.

* Referral to services: Guide and direct people who require it to the corresponding medical units to receive specialized care.

* Health promotion: Provide information on healthy habits, disease prevention, and the health services available in the entity.

This proactive approach, bringing health care directly into people's homes, aims to overcome the geographic or economic barriers that often prevent people from accessing the medical care they need.

The "House-to-House Health" program is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the public health system in the State of Mexico, one of the most populated states in the country and facing enormous challenges in this area. The information collected through the census will be essential for planning more effective public policies and allocating resources more efficiently.

This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of life of thousands of residents of the State of Mexico, especially those who live in marginalized areas or who have difficulty accessing health centers.

Governor Delfina Gómez (hypothetical): "With 'House-to-House Health,' we are bringing the government to the ground, listening directly to our people. We want a State of Mexico where healthcare is a guaranteed right for all, regardless of where they live or how much they have. This is a firm step in that direction, working hand in hand with the federal government and Mexico City."

The program's success will depend on several factors, including the training and commitment of health workers, citizen participation, and the system's capacity to respond to identified needs. Continuity and follow-up on identified cases will be key to ensuring that the effort goes beyond mere data collection.

The citizens of the State of Mexico are eagerly awaiting the development of "House-to-House Health," hoping it will translate into concrete improvements in their access to quality health services.
