Scandal: QRoo MP from the 4T party in Ibiza

Morena deputy Enrique Vázquez Navarro, who represents Quintana Roo, was exposed in a video partying at "Lío," an exclusive and expensive club in Ibiza, Spain. The incident sparked outrage and questions about the austerity measures implemented by the 4T (Tourist Party).
Amid an official discourse championing "republican austerity" and "humility in the exercise of power," a video has ignited social media and put a legislator from the Fourth Transformation in the spotlight. Enrique Vázquez Navarro, a federal deputy for Morena (Morena) from Quintana Roo, was captured enjoying the night at "Lío," one of the most expensive and glamorous clubs in Ibiza, Spain.
The video, released by journalist Claudio Ochoa, shows the 22-year-old legislator dancing and enjoying the show at the famous cabaret club, where admission to a dinner show can cost more than 300 euros (more than 6,500 Mexican pesos), a figure that contrasts drastically with the economic reality of the majority of the citizens he represents.
The controversy is intensified by several factors that have been pointed out by Internet users:
- The Austerity Discourse: The waste on display clashes head-on with the austerity narrative promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President Claudia Sheinbaum.
- The Origin of His Seat: Vázquez Navarro did not win his seat at the polls. He is a multi-member representative who inherited the position from the incumbent, Juan Carlos Natale. Furthermore, he is originally from Veracruz, although he represents a district in Quintana Roo, which has generated criticism about his legitimacy and connection to the state.
- The Political Moment: The trip comes almost at the same time that President Sheinbaum called on her party's officials to "exercise power with humility" and that other 4T legislators, such as Senator Ricardo Monreal, were also seen vacationing in Madrid.
For Enrique Vázquez Navarro, this isn't his first foray into controversy. Since taking office, he has been involved in several episodes that have attracted media attention:
- At the end of last year, he dressed up as a Christmas tree in the Chamber of Deputies to celebrate the approval of the budget, an act that was dismissed by many as frivolous.
- In March, he had a public confrontation with his fellow party member, María Teresa Ealy, whom he accused of "dividing the movement" for her vote in the impeachment of Cuauhtémoc Blanco. Ealy, for her part, accused him of political gender violence.
"A luxury that contrasts with austerity? […] The incident came to light after fellow Morena member Ricardo Monreal was spotted vacationing in Madrid," a report from Azteca Noticias stated, framing the incident as part of a pattern.
The reaction on social media has been overwhelmingly negative, with thousands of users coining nicknames like "#LordIbiza" and questioning the source of the funds for such an ostentatious trip. Critics point to a total disconnect between certain members of the political class and the public.
To date, neither Representative Vázquez Navarro nor the Morena leadership in Quintana Roo or at the national level have issued an official statement regarding the video. This silence has only fanned the flames of controversy, allowing the narrative of hypocrisy and privilege to dominate public conversation. The case once again tests the consistency of a movement that promised to be different from past governments.
