the entry of new partners paves the way for a reconfiguration of the power quotas of the owners' assembly of the Mexican Football Federation, after Grupo Pachuca recently undermined the former control of Televisa. The foreign capital that invested in Liga MX in recent tournaments is slowly but surely tipping the balance in favor of the G-8 led by Jesús Martínez Patiño; this is the case of Ciudad Juárez and Atlético San Luis... Which side will Marc Spiegel, the new owner of the Gallos Blancos, choose?... In 2021, Necaxa was predictable due to the relationship between investor Eva Longoria and Pepe Bastón, an official at the Chapultepec Avenue television station.
The alleged $120 million that Spiegel paid Grupo Caliente for the Querétaro club was like passing a steaming, mouth-watering dish to the hungry. Grupo Salinas (Atlas, Mazatlán, and Puebla) and Grupo Orlegi (Atlas and Santos) didn't resist. The owners of those clubs are in legal trouble and desperately need cash, so they immediately put the red-and-black team on the market. But since they have a tail to step on and are on the loose, they're going to sell through intermediaries, and within hours they proclaimed to the four winds that there are already interested parties... Expectations are high to see which spendthrift magnate will deliver the pearls of the Virgin.
For the Ajusco television station, is Puebla still in the running?... "I know many Puebla businessmen, but none who would be willing to throw their money away—I assure you—to buy" the Mexican national team, says Emilio Maurer, a former Mexican soccer director, former owner of the Camoteros, currently a businessman involved in the politics of his club. His suspicion and extensive knowledge of the intrigues that occur at the top of national soccer lead him to express doubts regarding the recent transactions seeking to eliminate timeshares. "It could be a simulation. I have no proof that they are real sales
," he emphasizes. "But as long as there is no promotion and relegation, it makes little sense. Our soccer will not improve
," he concludes.
Ironically, Maurer emphasizes: “The fact that power is being divided and that Grupo Pachuca is doing things right seems to me to be coming too late; they've ruined everything. People stopped going to important tournaments that were driving growth, like the Copa Libertadores, simply because Televisa didn't have the broadcast rights… In contrast, now they're going to interrupt the championship for a tournament that nobody cares about (the Leagues Cup), not even their fellow countrymen living in the United States! Those people who were so dedicated and unconditional have stopped going; they don't sell out like they used to; little by little, disenchantment is setting in… They're doing very well at screwing Mexican soccer.”
Indeed, the arrival of US capital to the Querétaro Bajío region leaves little room for optimism. Nothing happened with the arrival of investors to the Rayos or San Luis either… On Thursday, Spiegel held a press conference in which he didn't take questions, heaping praise on the city and saying he's joining a league with potential greater than those in South America and Asia… What interests him most is the dual market: Mexico and the United States. That's how it was sold to him, and with a bonus: no relegation. What he didn't mention was bringing in reinforcements to lift a team that has two losses… Mikel Arriola, addicted to quoting rosy numbers, proudly stated that an investment fund valued the Liga MX at $13 billion, and what are they waiting for to sell it all?
In the week that World Cup ticket sales opened at gold prices, Liga MX played the second matchday of the 2025 Apertura with its goalkeepers in the eye of the storm… 17-year-old Rodrigo Parra again made a pair of terrible mistakes that contributed to the defeat against Tuzos. Either the team is poorly working with its youth teams or Parra isn't a goalkeeper, but was he really the best prospect? Who is recommending him? And why insist on Costa Rican Keylor Navas and not opt for a talented youngster, who undoubtedly exists… Kick Kevin Mier (Cruz Azul) out, he won't make up for what he earns!… Chivas debuted with a defeat, the referee stabbed them; however, they put on a pleasing performance against León. La Máquina earned another draw, consumed by the anxiety to please the crowd and erase the shadow of Vicente Sánchez.
