Montse Tomé praises 'her' Spain: "We see the team we wanted, with players who represent what we want."

Spain , who will play England in their bid to win their first European Championship , are already a reflection of what Montse Tomé had envisioned when she took over the reins of the team almost two years ago. "Now we see the team we wanted and that we've been working on for a long time. In this year and a bit [since her contract renewal], we've been tweaking things to get to where we are, with the players we want and who represent what we want," said the Asturian.

The numbers support their argument as much as the impression they've left in the five matches they've played so far in Switzerland, all with victories and making history: reaching the semifinals, beating Germany , and playing in their first final. However, cautiously, they continue to shake off their favoritism. "The first objective we've achieved has been to play six matches; we talked about it in the locker room. Pressure? England are defending champions , they're the current European champions, and we're going to play what the match demands."

Tomé expects it to be a very close match. "They're the defending champions. We know the demands, and in a final we're going to play on equal terms. We've played each other twice this year. At Wembley, we deserved more, but they're very competitive, and when they don't seem to be doing well, they end up winning. In Barcelona, we overpowered them in the second half and turned the score around," the coach recalled.

Their opponent likes to "attack, they have a lot of attacking potential, a high-level midfield, and a defensive line that knows how to get out. They press well and defend well," he analyzed. His players already know all of this. "The team is doing well, we've been adjusting our training to get ready for tomorrow's game. We've been able to do different sessions, adapting the loads to the players who have different playing time. They're eager for the game to start, but they're increasingly experienced in how to handle the hours leading up to it ," he noted.

It doesn't look like there will be any changes to a starting eleven. Athenea , Vicky , or Salma will wait for their moment. "I feel like we have 23 players who, the moment we see the game going in one direction or another, we can call upon them," he assured.

"Being on the national team is a privilege, and when we've spoken with them, they've accepted their role and their time, and they've respected the match plan. Managing has been easy. We know what Athena gives us from the start and what she gives us coming out. They all have a team mentality, and that makes managing them easier," he revealed.
