There was a fierce clash last night between VVD leader Dilan Yesilgöz and Telegraaf reporter Wierd Duk. The reason: an old video in which writer Arnon Grunberg spilled the beans about civil servants at the Ministry of Justice and Security.
Just like in all talk shows, yesterday was pretty much all about the fall of the Schoof-1 cabinet . This was also the case in Nieuws van de Dag on SBS6, which had Caroline van der Plas of BBB as a guest in addition to Dilan Yesilgöz. The program also went to the PVV stronghold of Heerlen with a reporter, to ' gauge the sentiment ' about yesterday.
In a video shown, which you can also see above, writer Grunberg said the following words in an old broadcast of Buitenhof about 'the strictest asylum policy ever': "That's for the stage. I gave a lecture to civil servants from the Ministry of Justice and Security who deal with asylum matters (...). They said 'we as civil servants - I hope they don't mind me telling them now - will do everything we can to throw a spanner in the works. And that's why we're here, that's why the fourth estate exists. To make democracy a bit sluggish.' Isn't that interesting to know?"
Caroline van der Plas then defends the ministers who resigned yesterday or are now working in a caretaker capacity in Nieuws van de Dag . Dilan Yesilgöz shakes her head several times before speaking. However, Wierd Duk takes the floor first: "I myself was in an app group of civil servants from Foreign Affairs who went against the minister's policy. The level of sabotage in that app group was really not normal."
Then it gets a bit too much for Yesilgöz. She talks about how things were during her time as Minister of Justice and Security (2022-2024) and hears "nonsense!"
