<i>The Pitt</i> Season 2: Everything We Know

Season 1 of Max’s new hit series The Pitt officially concluded with a satisfying finale this spring, but fans can relax: The show has already been renewed for season 2. The show premiered in January and has catalogued every hour in a very dramatic shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Each episode has followed Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (played by ER’s Noah Wyle), the nurses, residents, interns, security staff, and admin as they navigate a hectic work day that soon takes a serious turn for the worse.

In February, the network announced the renewal.

“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room,” Sarah Aubrey, head of Max Original Programming, told Variety. “Our collaboration with [producer] John Wells, [show creator] R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”

Gemmill, Wells, and Wyle responded to the news with a joint statement, saying, “We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of The Pitt and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season.”

Here’s everything we know about The Pitt season 2 so far.

The new season will debut in January 2026, Max has confirmed.

In an interview with Vulture in March, Max CEO Casey Bloys shared, “[T]he second season will premiere in January of 2026, a year later [than Season 1]. This model of more episodes cuts down on the gap between seasons. On the platform, we have shows like House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, and White Lotus, which, because of how they’re made, can take two years to make. What I love about something like The Pitt is, I can get 15 episodes in a year. That’s a really great addition to what we’re already doing on the platform. And I’d like to do more shows in this model.”

And Deadline reports production has already begun.

Until the finale, it’s hard to say where the end of season one will leave the characters. The second season will undoubtedly deal with the repercussions of how the finale goes, but the penultimate episode shows the hospital staff struggling to save lives amidst both a mass shooting and a potential measles outbreak, ending with McKay’s arrest for tampering with her ankle monitor.

During a Contenders TV panel, executive producer R. Scott Gemmill said season 2 will be taking place over Fourth of July weekend, a holiday noted for its numerous fireworks injuries, Deadline reported on April 5. The publication specified it would take place within “ten months” following the first season, so it’s also not a huge time jump.

Gemmill and producer John Wells have already started discussing season 2 themes with medical professionals.

“Part of what we do in the very early process of a new season is about going back to the experts,” Gemmill told TheWrap after the season 1 finale. “We’re talking to immigration specialists, autism specialists. We’re talking to PTSD specialists, because everybody has gone through this trauma now, as well. If you can think of it, we’re talking about it.”

“Unfortunately, there is no lack of new subjects,” Wells added. “A lot of the process is talking to the physicians and nurses who are in the field and saying, ‘So, what’s on your mind? What are you concerned about? What’s coming in? What are you thinking about? What are you worried about?’ We’re not going to run out of those issues anytime soon.”

On April 12, in an interview with TV Line, Gemmill revealed the new season will “pick up on Langdon’s first day back at work,” giving both the viewers and characters a chance to catch up with what’s happened the last ten months “as he catches up with all those people.”

He explained that “everyone has been promoted or graduated to the next level. So we’ll see everybody, for the most part, and some people might be working different hours and different shifts, but it’s pretty much the same crew.”

And don’t worry: Dana will be back.

“Obviously, I can’t get rid of Katherine,” Gemmil said of actor Katherine LaNasa.

Noah Wyle will be returning as Dr. Robby, and will likely be joined by season 1’s cast: Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Taylor Dearden (Dr. King), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), Shabana Azeez (Javadi), and Ken Kirby (Dr. Shen). Hopefully, we’ll see more of Aimeelynn Abellera (Perlah) and Kristin Villanueva (Princess) too.

In July 2025, Variety reported that Tracy Ifeachor would not be returning as Dr. Heather Collins. Sources told the publication that “the decision was made by the show’s creative team,” adding that Ifeachor was not leaving “of her own accord.”

There’s a question whether Langdon will be back after Dr. Robby advises him to go to rehab, and whether Dana will return since she considered leaving in the finale. But Gemmill thinks “the majority of the characters will be back” in season 2, he also told TheWrap. “There may be some who are not back because they’re working the night shift, and we might not see them til later … Kind of like we did with Abbott. Most of your favorite characters will definitely be back in some capacity.”

Season 2 will also introduce four new characters. According to Deadline, Charles Baker (Breaking Bad), Irene Choi (Insatiable), and newcomers Lucas Iverson and Laëtitia Hollard will join in recurring roles. Baker will play Troy, an unhoused patient. Choi will play Joy, a third-year medical student. Iverson will play James, a fourth-year med student. And Hollard will play Emma, a nursing school grad.

On June 24, Deadline announced that Sepideh Moafi (Black Bird, The L Word: Generation Q) has also joined the cast to play “an attending physician in emergency medicine.”

Yes! On June 16, Max tweeted a behind-the-scenes video from set with the caption, “We’re so back. Season 2 of #ThePitt has begun filming.”

We also have a first look at Dr. Robby (Wyle) and Dr. Shen (Ken Kirby).

Earlier this month, in an Instagram story posted by Shabana Azeez, who plays Dr. Victoria Javadi, she also shared that production had begun. In the photo, which was later reposted on X by a Brazilian fan account for the show, Azeez is standing in front of her dressing room door that reads “The Pitt Season 2” with her character’s name underneath.
