The police officers who went to the scene initially determined that the driver of the Volvo, a 39-year-old resident of the Chłopice commune, most likely did not adjust his speed to the road conditions, as a result of which he lost control of the vehicle and drove into a roadside ditch. A breathalyzer indicated that the man had 4.24 per mille of alcohol in his system.
