68 firefighters and equipment are going to flood-prone areas

Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall in central and southern Poland, 68 firefighters from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship were sent to Sieradz, including special flood companies with pumps.
Due to the threat of heavy rainfall and flooding, firefighters from the West Pomeranian province were sent to the Łódź province on Tuesday. Their base will be the Training Centre of the local Provincial Police Headquarters in Sieradz. - We are leaving immediately after the briefing at the gathering point in Myślibórz, before 4 p.m. The journey will take a little over four hours - junior captain Przemysław Majer from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Szczecin told PAP.
As he explained, the West Pomeranian "component" supporting the State Fire Service in central Poland is made up of firefighters from Szczecin, Koszalin, Kołobrzeg, Sławno, Świdwin, Choszczno, Stargard, Goleniów, Świnoujście, Kamień Pomorski and Pyrzyce. - In total, there are 19 vehicles, six quads, 68 people - informed Majer.
The West Pomeranian firefighters are taking with them, among other things, sludge pumps, floating pumps, saws, chainsaws, shovels, waders, etc., as well as accommodation and sanitary containers. The Special Flood Companies "Chrobry" and "Batory", two support platoons equipped with quads and the logistics platoon "Biwak" were sent to the action.
As Majer noted, firefighters from Szczecin and other West Pomeranian units may be sent to rescue operations in the areas as early as Tuesday evening if weather forecasts warning of heavy rainfall are confirmed. - We will pump water out of basements, remove any windfalls, and help local residents - explained the firefighter.
In connection with the forecasted rainfall this week, a briefing was held on Monday at the Government Security Center with the participation of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Wiesław Leśniakiewicz, governors and representatives of the Main Headquarters of the State Fire Service. - The water level in most rivers is low. We will constantly analyze the weather situation and its impact on hydrology in our country - assured Leśniakiewicz.
Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the State Fire Service, Gen. Józef Galica, informed that the State Fire Service has 31 flood companies, which are intended both for evacuation and for removing the effects of a possible flood.
Dr. Grzegorz Duniec from the National Meteorological Protection Center reported that heavy rainfall is expected in the coming days. He noted that the IMiGW issued third-degree warnings for Tuesday for the following provinces: Łódź and the southern part of the Masovian province, as well as the western part of the Lesser Poland province and the Silesian province. On the other hand, second-degree warnings were issued for the remaining part of the Lesser Poland province and the following provinces: Świętokrzyskie, Podkarpackie and the western part of the Lublin province.
He announced that the intensity of rainfall will decrease in the coming days. - On Thursday and Friday, this rainfall may still be intense, but in the following days it will be of lower intensity - Duniec summed up.
