  • Speed measurements using new speed cameras have started in Tarnowskie Góry and Racibórz.
  • The contract for the supply and installation of 70 speed cameras, financed by the National Road Traffic Control Center (KPO), is being implemented by Lifor Sp. z o. o. on behalf of the Center for Automatic Road Traffic Surveillance (CANARD), under a contract worth nearly PLN 16.8 million.
  • The largest number of them will be installed in the Wielkopolskie (11), Lower Silesian (10), and Masovian (8) provinces. Each device location will be preceded by an informational road sign. All will be yellow.

Several months ago, Lifor Sp. z o.o., the company that submitted the highest bid in the tender, was awarded the project, which included the delivery and installation of 70 speed cameras, financed by the National Traffic Police (KPO). Lifor Sp. z o.o. will receive nearly PLN 16.8 million (approximately PLN 240,000 per unit) for the TraffiStar SR390 system. Lifor Sp. z o.o. was given 71 weeks to complete the project, with delivery and installation of the first unit to occur no later than 50 weeks later. However, it completed this part of the contract significantly ahead of schedule.

- We have launched the first two speed cameras from a pool of 70 new devices purchased under the National Reconstruction Plan - informs the Automatic Road Traffic Supervision Center.

The devices have arrived and are already measuring speeds in the Silesian Voivodeship, specifically in Tarnowskie Góry on J. Korola Street and Racibórz on Kozielska Street. Both locations have a 50 km/h speed limit. These are the only speed cameras in the group of 70 planned for the Silesian Voivodeship.

The largest number of new speed cameras will appear in these voivodeships

Most speed cameras will be installed in:

  • Greater Poland Voivodeship (11),
  • Lower Silesia (10),
  • Masovian (8).

The full list is provided below the article. More are to be installed and launched successively. All must be operational by July 2026. Each device location will be preceded by an informational road sign, and the camera housing will be yellow.

All speed cameras financed by the KPO are to be operational by July 2026.

The locations were selected in cooperation with the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the Police.

"These are locations where, due to a real safety risk caused by excessive speed, automatic monitoring devices were necessary," CANARD notes. "When selecting locations, the presence of potential hazards and factors that increase the likelihood of an accident was verified. Primarily, the number and type of road incidents and the number of victims, broken down into fatalities and injuries, were taken into account, as well as the presence of facilities such as pedestrian crossings, bicycle paths, and public spaces that generate higher traffic volumes."

They will measure the speed of several vehicles in several lanes at the same time

TraffiStar SR390 devices guarantee continuous speed measurement and high-quality recorded evidence of driver violations. CANARD ensures they can operate continuously in challenging weather conditions, both day and night.

"They automatically recognize the type of vehicle and read its license plates. They also have the ability to measure the speed of several vehicles in several lanes simultaneously, assigning each vehicle the necessary data , such as speed and vehicle type, lane used, direction, time, and location of the offense," explains the Center.

He emphasizes that in supervised areas, traffic calms and speeds slow down, which results in fewer accidents and collisions.

Drivers usually take their foot off the gas pedal. There have been over 700,000 instances where they failed to do so.

Traffic volume measurements show that the vast majority of drivers adhere to the speed limit in the supervised area.

"On average, less than 0.5 percent of drivers passing a speed camera exceed the speed limit. Last year, 459 CANARD speed cameras recorded 719,158 speeding violations ," the Center calculates.

The most offenses were recorded by speed cameras in:

  • Świdnik - 21044,
  • Ruda Śląska - 10770,
  • Wanatach - 10284.

The average speeding violation recorded by speed cameras in 2024 was 22 km/h. However, the largest portion, nearly 400,000, of these offenses involved exceeding the speed limit by 11-20 km/h.
