Retirement in Poland is often associated with a benefit that covers only basic needs. However, the reality is more complex. Some professions provide significantly higher-than-average benefits for seniors, reaching up to tens of thousands of złoty per month.
Such cases are, of course, exceptions, but they also show how important earnings and length of service are, while paying appropriately high contributions.

According to a ZUS analysis following the March 2025 indexation, women are more likely to receive lower benefits. Approximately 38.4% receive up to PLN 2,800, while only 37.2% receive more than PLN 3,600. Among them, 9.5% receive pensions ranging from PLN 5,000 to PLN 6,500, and 6.3% receive more than PLN 6,500.
Men predominate in the higher brackets . Nearly 69.5% receive more than PLN 3,800, and 43.7% exceed PLN 5,000. As many as 22.4% (over 568,000 people) receive more than PLN 6,500, and 17.6% are in the group with pensions exceeding PLN 7,000.
Professions with the highest pensionsAlthough it is impossible to indicate specific professions that guarantee high benefits, the group of people with the highest pensions in Poland includes primarily those who have worked for decades in managerial positions or in professions requiring high qualifications .
However, the highest benefits apply not only to managers, doctors, and lawyers. They also include those employed in industries with difficult working conditions, such as mining.

How much is this typical pension? A record-breaking benefit of approximately PLN 51,400 gross per month (after the March indexation) is collected by a man who held managerial and scientific positions for over 62 years and retired at the age of 86.
Another example is a doctor from Lower Silesia who only retired at the age of 78. According to Money.pl, every month ZUS transfers a pension exceeding PLN 30,000 gross to his account (data from 2024).
Of course, several issues influence such a huge amount.
What influences the amount of your pension? The amount of the pension in Poland depends primarily on three factors:
- total contributions collected
- length of service
- the moment of retirement.

As the Social Insurance Institution itself emphasizes - the longer someone remains professionally active and pays contributions, the more capital is transferred to his or her ZUS account.
Earnings also play a role. High salaries over many years automatically translate into higher benefits. The age at which a claim is filed is also important. Those who postpone the decision to end their career can expect significantly higher benefits than those who retire immediately after reaching the statutory retirement age.
