Expensive photos on the border road strip

Border guards in Korczowa were alerted to an adult and three children approaching the state border on foot. At one point, the man allegedly stopped and directed the minors to a photo opportunity. The children entered the border crossing and then crossed the border, approaching a Ukrainian sign. A few minutes later, a Border Guard patrol checked the identification of the tourists – a French citizen and his three daughters. The man was fined 500 złoty.

At virtually the same time, a similar incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the neighboring Border Guard post in Lubaczów. In this case, a Polish man remained in his vehicle, while two children with Polish and Dutch citizenship approached the Ukrainian border marker to take a selfie. According to the BiOSG press service, in this case, border guards instructed the guardian on the rules of staying near the state border.

Clear warning signs are posted on access roads and directly at the border: "Border strip - entry prohibited" and "State border crossing prohibited." In the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, entry to the border strip is prohibited. The exception is sections of the border that are crossed by marked hiking trails in the Bieszczady Mountains. Entering this area is an offense punishable by a fine of up to PLN 500. However, approaching the Ukrainian sign constitutes illegal border crossing, which, depending on the circumstances, may be classified as a crime.
