Account revaluation. ZUS will pay more money to pensioners

In June, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) carried out the annual indexation of accounts and sub-accounts of insured persons. This year's indexation is record-breaking - the value of funds accumulated in main accounts increased by as much as 14.41 percent, and in sub-accounts by 9.49 percent. These changes translate into real benefits for future retirees.

In accordance with the provisions of the Act on Pensions and Annuities from the Social Insurance Fund, ZUS carries out an annual indexation of pension contributions in June . This is to protect the accumulated funds against inflation.

This year, the indexation rate is 114.41% (an increase of 14.41%) for the main account, and for sub-accounts - 109.49% (an increase of 9.49%). As reported by the president of ZUS, Zbigniew Derdziuk, "the purpose of indexation is to maintain the value of money and maintain the purchasing power of future benefits".

According to a statement published by ZUS, the total value of the increase in accounts and sub-accounts amounted to PLN 566.6 billion. For comparison, a year earlier it was PLN 521.6 billion.

The greatest beneficiaries will be those who apply for a pension after 30 June 2025. In their case, ZUS will take into account the new, higher values ​​of pension capital when determining the amount of the benefit.

For a person with 200 thousand zlotys in a sub-account, this means an increase in the value of these funds by almost 19 thousand zlotys after indexation alone. This can translate into an annual benefit of over 1000 zlotys , depending on the length of service and other calculation parameters.

The indexation rates are announced by the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy based on data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS). The high indexation in 2025 is the result of rising wages and inflation , which has had a strong impact on the real value of money in previous years.

According to the Central Statistical Office, the average monthly gross salary in the enterprise sector increased in 2024 by about 11 percent compared to the previous year (from PLN 7,444.39 to PLN 8,265.92). This data has a direct impact on ZUS indexation calculations.

People who are already receiving a pension will not feel the direct benefit of the June indexation. The amount of their benefit was determined based on the account balance on the day of the application and is not subject to recalculation. For this reason, many people decide to postpone the moment of retirement in order to take advantage of the higher conversion rate in subsequent years.

Each person can check how much money is in their account and pension sub-account via the ZUS Electronic Services Platform (PUE). Data will be updated after the June indexation by the end of the month.
