Increase or investment. Waste fee dropped, but is rising again

• More and more municipalities are increasing fees for waste collection and management.
• In Jastrzębie the rate will increase by over PLN 4 per month per person - from PLN 30 to PLN 34.

In Jastrzębie-Zdrój, councillors have agreed to increase the waste collection fee. At the previous session, they rejected a bill assuming an increase in the fee, but the office explained that this would result in the need to pay extra for the system and abandon selected investments.

From July 1, residents of Jastrzębie-Zdrój will pay PLN 34 for waste , an increase of PLN 4. Previously, residents of Jastrzębie paid PLN 30.

The proposed rates of fees for municipal waste management were determined based on a reliable calculation, prepared on the basis of available data and the best available knowledge, so that the fees charged cover the expenses related to the operation of the waste management system in the city.

In Jastrzębie-Zdrój, the waste fee increased from PLN 29.50 to PLN 33.80 per person per month at the end of 2022, but after settling 2023, it turned out that there was a PLN 2.7 million surplus in the system. The local government took a rare decision at the time to reduce the fee to PLN 30.

The situation on the waste management market quickly changed, however. At the beginning of 2025, the municipal authorities submitted a draft resolution assuming an increase, because as local government officials calculated, without it the municipality would pay around PLN 3.5 million to the system in the current year. At the April session, councilors did not agree to increase prices, but a month later they voted in favor of the resolution.
