No more disruptions on the way to the popular airport. Drivers will get there without detours

The viaduct on the S1 on the way to the airport in Pyrzowice has been renovated . This means an end to detours and difficulties for drivers.

The need for renovation was a consequence of a road accident that took place on December 6, 2023. A truck caught fire directly under the viaduct. According to GDDKiA, the high temperature caused cracks and scratches in the concrete structure.

The conducted expert opinion, taking into account the unusual nature of the event, indicated the need to limit the load-bearing capacity of the structure to 15 tons and to designate a detour for these vehicles using the nearest junctions (Pyrzowice Lotnisko and Podwarpie). The repair of the structure allowed for the removal of traffic restrictions and the restoration of the full load-bearing capacity of the structure.

The renovation was carried out while maintaining the continuity of car and pedestrian traffic, in order to minimize disruptions for users. The value of the contract was PLN 1.3 million.

The works included replacing the asphalt surface on the viaduct and access roads, providing anti-corrosion protection and repairing reinforced concrete surface elements.

The renovation was completed by performing a static load test and processing the results. After receiving positive results, the contractor introduced a target traffic organization that included restoring the traffic of vehicles over 15 tons.
