Endometrial cancer, or cancer of the uterine body, is currently the most common malignant tumor of the reproductive organs in women in Poland and Europe - warns Dr. Grzegorz Cwynar, MD, from the Zagłębie Center of Oncology in Dąbrowa Górnicza. He emphasizes that the disease has good prognosis, but only if detected early.

According to the specialist, the effectiveness of endometrial cancer treatment can reach as much as 90-95 percent if the disease is diagnosed at an early stage. In the case of late diagnosis, the chances drop dramatically - even to 20 percent.

- In the advanced stage, surgery is often no longer possible , and chemotherapy and radiotherapy are less effective than surgical treatment - the doctor explained.

Dr. Cwynar appealed to women not to ignore symptoms, especially after menopause. Even minor spotting from the genital tract should prompt a visit to a gynecologist and an endometrial biopsy. Younger patients should pay attention to changes in the nature of their periods - irregular bleeding or spotting between periods also require consultation and diagnostics, e.g. ultrasound.

- Oncology is teamwork - we meet every day at conferences, we establish treatment plans. Only close cooperation between surgeons, radiotherapists and chemotherapeutics gives a chance for effective treatment - noted Dr. Cwynar.

As he emphasized, the Zagłębie Oncology Center actively develops surgical gynecology and organizes educational activities. One of such events is the Patient Day of District Hospitals, which is taking place for the second time in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The event will take place on May 17 from 10:00-13:00.

- I cordially invite all women, especially those at increased risk of endometrial cancer, to free ultrasound examinations and my lecture on prevention and the development of oncology in our city. Prevention is the key to health - early detection gives a chance for a complete cure - encouraged Dr. Grzegorz Cwynar.
