Cracovia missed their chance. A surprising slip-up in the Ekstraklasa.
To cap off Monday's exciting 14th round of the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, Cracovia hosted Zagłębie Lubin. The clash at Kałuża had plenty of bite. Luka Elsner's team had recently been a bit out of breath (three defeats in their last four matches) and were looking to erase the stain of a heavy defeat to Raków Częstochowa in the Round of 16 of the Polish Cup. However, the Miedź team were determined to thwart their plans, with Leonardo Rocha on the hunt for more goals.
The Portuguese striker has been scoring on cue since his move from Raków, scoring in five consecutive matches. A feat no other Zagłębie player has achieved in the last 15 years.
But before the break, the Lubin striker was practically invisible and had no chance to add to his tally. Despite their enormous possession advantage, Cracovia also continued to attack with their heads against the wall. However, the hosts should have taken the lead in the 41st minute. Filip Stojilković headed a cross from Dominik Piła past Zagłębie goalkeeper Jasmin Burić from close range, and moments later, Mateusz Klich's rebound sailed over the bar.
All this amidst a terrifying silence in the stands. The most ardent Pasy fans left the stands in protest in the opening minutes and refrained from any organized support throughout the match . This, in turn, translated to a pitch that, for long stretches, was reeking of boredom.
In the closing stages, the fans became upset several times over referee Karol Arys's decisions, and Pasy's goalkeeping coach, Maciej Palczewski, was shown a yellow card. This was the first and only warning of the match. Let this serve as the best commentary.
