Iga Świątek is back from a long journey. Thriller ends with a knockout!

Looking only through the prism of the WTA ranking, it would seem that Iga Świątek should have no problem beating the US representative. However, sports, and tennis in particular, have managed to get used to their unpredictability. Especially in a situation where there are two players on the court who know each other very well. And this is how you can describe the tennis relationship between Iga Świątek and Caty McNally.
Wimbledon: Iga Świątek with valuable success! Caty McNally defeatedEven before the first ball of the second-round match, the Pole was convincing that the American was an expert in the field of playing on grass. Both players met many times in their junior years, because they are the same age. What's more, in 2018, Świątek, in a duet with McNally, reached for the triumph in the Roland Garros Grand Slam - we are talking about the doubles in the junior competition.
Of course, during the second round match at Wimbledon 2025, there was no talk of any pleasantries. Although Świątek entered the competition as number 4 in the latest WTA rankings, and McNally… 208, the difference was practically imperceptible. Although it is hard not to get the impression that this was a clash of moments. Example? The first set. From 4:1 for Świątek, a relatively confident game, to 5:7 to the disadvantage of the Polish player – when McNally gained more and more confidence with each play.
After an hour of play and a lost opening set, Świątek found herself against the wall. McNally seemed to know how to get the Pole out of her comfort zone. Additionally, mistakes began to repeat themselves on the Polish side of the net, the American seemed to be more consistent. However, tennis has this thing about it that after a clearly lost moment, i.e. 1:5 (from 4:1 to 5:7), it was not particularly strange that the second set began with... another 3:0 for Świątek.
This time, the Pole didn't let her rival catch up. The American seemed a bit late to the next hits, as if she was sensing the hardships of the competition from the very tough first set. The result? Świątek ended this set with a break for 6:2, thanks to which the match became 1:1, and in addition, the Pole started the decisive set with her service game. Which is good in itself.
The third set began with an important break for Świątek (2:0). The Pole arranged the final straight, although she had to play solidly to keep the American out of the game again, restoring hope for victory. However, she did it so consistently that the third set ended with a one-sided 6:1 for the Pole and 2:1 in the entire match.
Świątek withstood this test of nerves. In the third round, the Pole's opponent will be... another American, Danielle Collins. In other words, an "old friend" from the memorable post-match mini-scandal during the Olympic tournament in Paris (2024). Collins had a grudge against Świątek at the time, accusing her opponent of, for example... being falsely polite.
Kamil Majchrzak in the third round. When and where to watch the Pole's match? The only Polish singles player is doing very well at this year's Wimbledon. Kamil Majchrzak, in the absence of the injured Hubert Hurkacz, has already advanced to the third round of the tournament in London. The tennis player from Piotrków Trybunalski left the Italian Matteo Berrettini (five sets) and the American Ethan Quinn (three sets) in the defeated field.
Who will be the Pole's rival on his way to the tournament's best "sixteen"? Majchrzak will play against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech. Interestingly, the Polish tennis player's rival eliminated the tournament's "three" in the first round, German Sasha Zwieriew.
The Kamil Majchrzak vs. Arthur Rinderknech clash is scheduled for Friday (July 4) as the third match from 12:00 PM Polish time, on court No. 12 (after Sierra vs. Bucsa and Rakhimova vs. Noskova).
