You can agree with this or not, but prior agreements on the terms of extending contracts with key players of the winning team are often the greatest value in the transfer period. In the case of volleyball realities, there is no shortage of significant personnel turnover from season to season. Who is at the top of the list, for example, in the PlusLiga? Teams that have been in possession for more than a year, retaining the core, the backbone of the team.

PlusLiga: Bogdanka LUK Lublin maintains squad from championship season

The Polish Champions from Lublin decided to take the same path that JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel and ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, among others, preferred in the recent past. Long-term contracts are also a good thing in the ranks of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. The latter extended the contracts with captain Mateusz Bieniek and coach Michał Winiarski for several years ahead. Let's add that in the case of the club from Zawiercie, we are talking about the vice-champion of Poland and the silver medalist of the Champions League.

Bogdanka LUK will only debut in the Champions League volleyball, in the 2025/26 season. For now, it is a period in which the national champions can boast of extended contracts. Importantly, four pieces of news have already been published on this matter (as of Friday, May 23), and in each case it concerns a player from the starting line-up.

Contracts for the following years have been extended by: setter and captain Marcin Komenda , libero Thales Hoss, center Alex Grozdanow and attacker Kewin Sasak. The latter was one of the most important figures of the team in the play-offs, which opened the door wide for himself in the context of fighting for a place in the Polish national team. Some even claim that Sasak, if he maintains the pace from the end of the season in the PlusLiga, may even become the successor of Bartosz Kurek. Although probably "Kuraś" will not give up his place on the pitch easily.

Another very important player of Bogdanka LUK should soon appear on the list of extended contracts. Who knows, maybe the most important one, looking at the additional argument "for" fighting for the highest goals. It is of course Wilfredo Leon. The receiver of the Lublin team and the Polish national team feels very good in Lublin. Another great champion should also officially appear in the colors of Bogdanka LUK soon, with the long-awaited gold of the Tauron League from the 2024/25 season.

The new coach of the champions – only the PlusLiga – is to be Stephane Antiga. The Frenchman is an outstanding player from years ago, but also, for example, a world champion, already as a coach, with the Polish men's national team . Antiga also gained experience in coaching the men's team in the ranks of Onico Warszawa, today known as PGE Projekt. The Frenchman won the silver medal of the PlusLiga with the Warsaw team, having the aforementioned Kurek in the squad.

Regardless of what moves Bogdanka LUK makes next, it is clear that Lublin has an idea for volleyball. There is also money, but it needs to be invested properly. The Lublin club is doing everything right for now. Although the next challenge – defending the championship title in PlusLiga – will certainly be a challenge. Who knows, maybe it will be even more difficult than the first gold medal.
