James Cameron to Adapt Bestseller: "Strange Book Monster"

The creator of "Titanic" is preparing another intriguing project. James Cameron has acquired the rights to the bestselling novel "The Devils" by Joe Abercrombie, which was published in early May. The Hollywood director will write the script together with the author of the book, and his production company Lightstorm Entertainment will handle the production of the picture. "The plot twists here are happening at a rollercoaster pace, and the whole thing is decorated with Joe's characteristic dry wit," the three-time Oscar winner praises the literary original.
Although James Cameron will spend the next few years mainly filming the next parts of "Avatar" , he does not intend to give up on other projects. One of them is the planned film adaptation of Joe Abercrombie's latest novel, "The Devils" . The dark fantasy book reached readers' hands only on May 5, and it has already become a bestseller. The publication took 1st place in the British list of the most read titles and 5th place on the prestigious bestseller list of "The New York Times" magazine.

The 800-page novel will be released in Poland on June 18, 2025 by MAG. The action takes place in an alternative reality of medieval Europe, which is threatened by an invasion of bloodthirsty elves. The heroes of the novel, including the monk Diaz , must find a way to unite the quarreling factions in order to face the approaching apocalypse together.
James Cameron to Adapt Amercrombie's "The Devils"- Europe stares into the abyss. Famine and plague are rampant, monsters lurk in every shadow, and greedy princes are interested only in fulfilling their own ambitions. Only one thing is certain: the elves will return, and when they do, they will devour everyone - reads the publisher's description.
Cameron announced that his Lightstorm Entertainment company has acquired the rights to the book. The filmmaker will write the script with the author of the original book, who is excited about the collaboration.
"I can't imagine anyone better than me to successfully bring this weird and wonderful monstrosity of a book to the screen," the British author said in a statement quoted by IndieWire.
The creator of "Titanic" will begin work on the film after completing post-production on "Avatar: Fire and Ashes," which is set to hit the big screen on December 19. The three-time Oscar winner emphasized that he has been a fan of Abercrombie's work for many years, as he is a film editor by profession.
- I love his work, I appreciate every book he writes. I'm convinced that the script will practically write itself, because Joe writes in an incredibly visual way, while maintaining the filmic structure of the story. (...) it's a twisted story from an alternate universe. The plot twists are rollercoaster-like, and the whole thing is sprinkled with Joe's characteristic dry wit. It will be a wonderful challenge for me to breathe life into these characters - Cameron noted in a statement.
