The Silesian zoo has a new resident. It's an endangered species.

On Wednesday, the Silesian Zoo profile posted information about the birth of a ruffed lemur. The message was accompanied by three photos of the animal, and the comments emphasized that it was a great success and the first baby of this species after several years of trying.

A ruffed lemur was born in the Silesian zoo

"We have some great news for you! Our family has a new resident - a tiny ruffed lemur! He was born on April 20, and his mother has been taking great care of him from the very beginning? And most importantly... we already know his gender! He's a boy, whom we named Rapid. You can already admire him in his enclosure!" - wrote the zoo employees.

The Wari are critically endangered. They live in the forests of Madagascar, inhabiting the treetops. They live in loose groups and feed on fruit. These mammals are polygamous, and their pregnancy lasts from 99 to 102 days, after which the mother gives birth to one to five young.

The Ruffed Lemur is the largest of the lemurs. It can grow to between 50 and 55 cm (excluding the tail). Its tail is another 60-65 cm. These animals weigh around 3-3.7 kg.
