D. José Pereira presides over the diaconal ordination of Ricardo Bernardes

The Bishop of Guarda , D. José Pereira, will preside over the diaconal ordination of Ricardo Bernardes, this Sunday, June 22, at 4:30 pm, at the Guarda Cathedral.

“Divine providence allows us, even on an exceptional date, to receive the grace of the diaconal ordination of our seminarian, Ricardo Bernardes, even before the end of the pastoral year”, explains the Bishop of Guarda in the communication he sent to the priests of the Diocese. D. José Pereira adds that “As an event of importance and renewed hope for the Diocese, it would be good if the parishes could be present with some of the leaders most committed to the pastoral life of the community and with some young people, acolytes or not”.

Ricardo Bernardes is from Elói Mendes, Minas Gerais State (Brazil), and attended the Interdiocesan Major Seminary of S. José, in Braga. He comes from a reality deeply marked by the faith and piety of the Portuguese people and which, even today, preserves many precious religious traditions in its liturgical celebrations, especially during Holy Week.

Speaking to Jornal A Guarda, Ricardo Bernardes said that, in Portugal, his adopted home is the town of Manteigas , in the heart of Serra da Estrela.

He arrived in Portugal in 2019, through Bishop Dom Diamantino Prata de Carvalho, son of Manteigas and who was Bishop of the Diocese of Campanha, his diocese of origin, in Minas Gerais. He enjoys reading, listening to music and walking. “On this path that is so challenging and at the same time so enchanting, which is the call of Jesus, I renew every day the desire and good disposition to be at the service of the Church and the mission”, said Ricardo Bernardes.
