Mexico sues Google over Gulf of Mexico name change

The alignment of big tech companies with Donald Trump is starting to have negative effects on them. Since the beginning of his second term, the current president of the United States has been saying that he will rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. What no one expected was that Google would change the name of the region on Google Maps. While in Brazil and the rest of the world, the original name remains the same, in the United States, the online map has already been renamed.
And the consequences were not long in coming. The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced last Friday, May 9, that she is suing the technology giant for the change. "What we are saying is that Google should put 'Gulf of America' where it is 'Gulf of America', which is the part that corresponds to the territory of the United States, and put Gulf of Mexico in the territorial part that corresponds to Mexico and Cuba," she said.
Claudia had previously asked the company to return the map to normal, but received no response. In addition to Google, Apple also modified its maps to reflect Trump's speech.
