Rowers with links to the district on the podium at the Indoor World Championships

Afonso Costa, a former student at the University of Coimbra (UC), Bruna Parente, who is a student at UC, and Marcelo Simões, a rower at Académica, shone at the 2025 Indoor Rowing World Championships by winning medals.
Afonso Costa was crowned world champion in the lightweight men's category (23-39 years) and also won the overall classification of the category, becoming world champion.
Academic Marcelo Simões was 3rd in the 21-22 age group and 9th overall.
José Azevedo, from Naval Remo, did not participate in the event “due to the lack of a stable remote connection”, as can be read on the Figueira team’s social media.
In the women's category, Bruna Parente was crowned world champion in the lightweight 21-22 year-old category and secured 2nd place overall in the lightweight women's category, thus being runner-up in the world in the event that took place virtually and brought together athletes from all over the world.
