Cascais. Councillor to file complaint for racism

Carla Nunes Semedo reports: “The bus driver thought it would be a good idea to tell him that he did not transport animals. Yes, in 2025. In Portugal. In Cascais” . And she uses the case to highlight: “There is a phenomenon even more worrying than the increase in hate speech: its normalization. The loss of shame. The ease with which people say things that for years were camouflaged under the veil of political correctness”.
In written messages exchanged with Lusa, the councilor said that the incident occurred on a Carris Metropolitana bus , which provides public road transport services in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Carla Nunes Semedo has already contacted the company, which promised to “take action” and gave her a contact number to which she could send a written complaint, which she has not yet had the opportunity to do.
Lusa has already asked Carris Metropolitana for clarification on the case.
“It’s hard to write this. But it’s harder to keep quiet. To those who still feed racist speeches, with words or with complicit silence, I leave a clear message: we are no longer the same. We are no longer those who, out of respect or fear, swallowed hatred disguised as opinions. We are no longer those who accepted insults in the name of social peace ,” wrote the councilwoman in the post made on Instagram.
