LIVRAR Festival celebrates 25 years of the Municipal Library of Santa Maria da Feira

About to complete 25 years of activity in the current building, which opened its doors on June 17, 2000, the Municipal Library of Santa Maria da Feira is preparing to celebrate the anniversary with LIVRAR – Festival of Books, Future and Progress, which will begin on the 17th of this month and will run until July 28 with 23 activities scheduled for different audiences.
LIVRAR's official program includes workshops, exhibitions, book presentations, moments of thought and reflection, workshops, artistic installations, theatrical and musical performances, as well as a book fair, involving authors, illustrators, storytellers, theater companies and personalities from the area of culture and books.
With this new cultural project, the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira will «celebrate the collective memory that unites all those who contributed to the growth and affirmation of the Municipal Library», which was awarded, in 2024, with the Maria José Moura Prize – Good Practices in Public Libraries 2023 and referenced, based on data recently released by the National Network of Public Libraries, as «the public library that made the most loans in 2023 and the one that, in the same year, invested the most in books and other documents, making it a national reference».
The start of the festival on the 17th of this month will be marked by «two moments of great symbolism», to be held from 9 pm: the gathering “CASA do Saber – Libraries that Welcome the Future” and the tribute “Etelvina Araújo, Memória Maior”, in recognition of the «invaluable contribution» of the former director, who passed away in March 2023, to the history of this facility.
