Rain. All of Madeira under orange warning

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed all regions of the Madeira archipelago under orange alert this morning due to the forecast of precipitation.

The north coast, the south coast, Porto Santo and the mountainous areas are under an orange warning until 9 am, after which the yellow warning will return until 9 pm, according to a statement from IPMA.

This institute predicts “showers, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunder and possibly in the form of hail”.

The yellow warning for thunderstorms was also activated this Saturday in the archipelago until 8 am.

The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation. The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.
