Alcântara and Bairro Alto win the 2025 edition of the Lisbon Popular Marches

Alcântara and Bairro Alto won this year's edition of the Lisbon Popular Marches Competition , announced this Friday the Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company (EGEAC), responsible for organizing the initiative.
In third place was Marcha da Bica, winner of the 2023 edition.
Another 17 groups took part in the competition this year: Alfama (4th), Madragoa (5th), Marvila (6th), São Vicente (7th), Alto do Pina (8th), Mouraria (9th), Penha de França (10th), Bela Flor-Campolide (11th), Carnide (12th), Bairro da Boavista and Castelo (13th ex aequo), Benfica (15th), Olivais (16th), Beato (17th), Graça (18th), Lumiar (19th) and São Domingos de Benfica (20th).
In 2024, Alcântara had been the winning march.
According to information from EGEAC, São Vicente and Alcântara won in the categories of Best Choreography and Best Set Design , respectively. Best Costume Design was also awarded to both marches.
The award for Best Lyrics went to Alcântara , a march that shared the award for Best Musicality with Bairro Alto, Bica and Marvila.
In the category of Best Original Composition , the winner was Bica, with “Meia porta, porta e meia”.
The Best Parade on the Avenue went to the marches from Bairro Alto, Bica and Madragoa.
The Macanese group Street Dance, with the Golden Fish Lantern Dance, opened the 2025 edition of the parade on Avenida da Liberdade.
This was followed by the Children's March of the Lisbon Schools and the three extra-competition marches: “A Voz do Operário”, Mercados and Santa Casa.
The Soul of Lisbon was the central theme of this year's edition of the Grande Marcha de Lisboa, with lyrics and music by Gimba, performed by all participating groups (in addition to their own songs).
This year the event brought together more than 1,800 participants.
