Wall Street opens flat on second day of China-US trade talks

Wall Street opened trading weakly, with all eyes on trade talks between China and the United States in London that could have a huge impact on the global economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.05% at the open, to 42,738.27. The S&P 500 rose 0.07% at the open, to 6,009.91, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.15%, to 19,620.108 at the open.

A second day of talks between the United States and China was planned after U.S. and Chinese officials met in London on Monday to discuss some issues.

The hope is that the countries can eventually reach a deal to reduce each other's exorbitant tariffs. Most of the tariff increases imposed since U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his trade war have been suspended to allow trade to continue, ranging from small technology devices to large machinery.

Tesla opened up 1.51% on Tuesday, a day after recovering much of its recent sharp decline. The electric vehicle company plunged last week as Elon Musk's relationship with Trump imploded, but shares rose 2.3% in premarket trading after rising 4.6% on Monday.

The euro advances 0.17% to 1.1441 dollars.
