Eight-year-old boy buys R$23,000 worth of lollipops on his mother's cell phone

A resident of the state of Kentucky, in the United States , was shocked to discover that her bank account was in the red — and the reason was, to say the least, unusual: her 8-year-old son had made an online purchase of 70,000 lollipops, totaling US$ 4,200 (around R$ 23,700).
According to information from the Good Morning America program, Holly LaFavers said that little Liam used his cell phone without permission to order the candy online. The boy's plan was to organize a party in the backyard and distribute the lollipops as prizes among his friends.
“He came out on his scooter and started shouting, ‘My lollipops are here!’” Holly explained. Soon after, her porch was filled with 22 huge boxes, all stuffed with the lollipops she had ordered.

Desperate, the mother tried to cancel the purchase and stop further deliveries. “I was in a panic,” she said. She managed to recover part of the orders that were still in the mail, but the store initially denied her refund.
Seeking help, Holly turned to social media users. In a Facebook post , the mother explained the situation and reported that the company had advised her to refuse the delivery, but the delivery person left the boxes without warning, which made it impossible to return them.
The outcry was immediate. Within hours, people from the community, local banks, doctors’ offices and even a chiropractor had offered to buy the lollipops and help the family cover the loss.

Fortunately, the story had a happy ending. After the repercussion and contact with the media, the online store backtracked and provided a full refund for the purchase.
“After a long day, the bank helped me, and the company called to say they will refund the money. Thank you very much to everyone who mobilized. Anyone who bought a box to help us can receive it or choose an institution to donate to,” wrote Holly in the post update.
