Guarda. A23 closed after truck crash

The Beira Interior motorway (A23) is closed in the Benespera area (Guarda), in the Covilhã – Guarda direction, due to a heavy goods vehicle skidding, said Civil Protection.

The alert for the accident — which caused one minor injury, the truck driver — was given at 1:42 pm and 18 firefighters from Guarda and Gonçalo were mobilized to the site, at kilometer 199.2 kilometers, as well as the GNR and the motorway concessionaire, supported by six vehicles, said a source from the Sub-regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Beiras and Serra da Estrela to the Lusa news agency.

“The motorway is closed, in the south-north direction, because the heavy vehicle is overturned on the road and occupying all three lanes. Traffic is being diverted to the National Road (EN18), at the Belmonte junction of the A23”, said the same source.

There is no forecast for the reopening of the road and the vehicles that were stopped on the motorway due to the accident are returning with the support of the GNR Traffic Detachment.
