Montenegro spoke on the phone with Zelensky and reaffirmed Portugal's support

The Prime Minister spoke today on the telephone with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to whom he reaffirmed Portugal's support against the Russian invasion and in favor of the objective of achieving a just and lasting peace.
This position was conveyed by Luís Montenegro on his official account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) on the day that Europe Day is celebrated and on the eve of the meeting of the coalition of 31 countries that condemn the Russian military intervention in Ukraine and are available to join a peacekeeping force, the “Coalition of Willing”.
A meeting that will take place on Saturday, in Kiev, in which Portugal will be represented by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel.
“I have just spoken on the phone with President [Volodymyr] Zelensky. On this Europe Day and on the eve of another meeting of the Coalition of Willing, which will be attended by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, I wanted to reaffirm that Portugal continues to stand by Ukraine and the Ukrainian people on the path to a just and lasting peace,” wrote the leader of the national executive.
Today, the President of Ukraine announced a meeting on Saturday in Kiev with the leaders of the coalition that brings together nations that could contribute to a peacekeeping force in a possible truce agreement with Russia.
“We are preparing in Ukraine for a meeting with the coalition leaders,” Volodymyr Zelensky said during his speech via videoconference at a meeting held in Oslo of the leaders of the countries that are part of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
France and the United Kingdom have led efforts to create a military contingent that could be deployed to Ukraine after the end of the war, which began with Russia's invasion in February 2022, to prevent Moscow from attacking the neighboring country again.
