Presidential elections: PSD votes in support of Marques Mendes on the day of Gouveia e Melo's presentation

The PSD National Council will meet on May 29 to formally vote on the party's support for Luís Marques Mendes' presidential candidacy, on the same day that Gouveia e Melo presents himself for Belém.
According to the call from the PSD National Council, published today in Povo Livre (the party's official newspaper), the meeting's agenda will include the analysis of the political situation, the presentation, discussion and voting of the 2024 Management and Accounts Report and “support for the candidacy for President of the Republic”.
Although the call does not mention any names, several PSD leaders, including president Luís Montenegro, have already made it clear that they will propose to the party that it support its former leader Luís Marques Mendes, who presented his candidacy at the beginning of February for the presidential elections in January next year.
The PSD National Council, scheduled for 9:00 pm at a hotel in Lisbon, will take place a few hours after Admiral Henrique Gouveia e Melo officially presents his candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic, an initiative scheduled for 7:00 pm in Lisbon at the Alcântara Maritime Station, in Lisbon.
Gouveia e Melo confirmed that he is a candidate for the January 2026 presidential elections, in statements to Rádio Renascença, on the 14th, in the middle of the electoral campaign for the early legislative elections on Sunday.
