PSD and PS join forces to expel PCP from power in Santiago do Cacém

The PSD and PS support the same candidate for mayor of Santiago do Cacém. Both parties declined to field their own candidate for that Alentejo municipality, opting instead to support the "We Are All Citizens – STC" movement, led by Bruno Gonçalves Pereira.
"Considering the importance of joining forces for a new cycle of development for Santiago do Cacém, the Socialist Party (PS) announces that it has decided not to present its own candidacy for the 2025 Local Elections, opting to support this independent movement," reads a statement from the political committee of the local socialist council.
"We believe that this movement, made up of dedicated and respected citizens, brings a renewed perspective and concrete solutions for the future of our region," he adds.
On the PSD website, among the “Candidates supported by the PSD but independent” we can read the name of Bruno Pereira as Candidate for the Municipal Council of that town in the district of Setúbal.
The goal is to try to wrest the City Council from the PCP—which has always governed democratically—whose candidate, Vítor Proença, is the current mayor of Alcácer do Sal. The mayor of Santiago do Cacém is the Communist candidate for the Sines City Council in the October 12th local elections.
The candidate supported by both the Socialist Party and the Social Democratic Party (PS) is Bruno Gonçalves Pereira, a radio broadcaster. He began his career in his hometown of Santiago do Cacém, but by the age of 19, he was already in Lisbon working for Renascença and RFM, spent a few years at Comercial, and has worked at RTP radio stations, particularly Antena 1, since 2005.
His love of music even led him to write and publish a book about Portuguese bands, "Bookstage – Behind the Scenes of Portuguese Rock." He ran for election for the first time.
