CBF president considers creating new Brazilian championship

The new president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud , is interested in creating Series E of the Brazilian Championship .

According to Rogério Siqueira, president of ASA, from Alagoas, and representative of the Série D clubs, the idea had already been discussed with former president Ednaldo Rodrigues.

“Relevant issues such as the possible creation of the Brazilian Championship Series E, which have been discussed since last year with the CBF competition team, now find a more favorable institutional environment to evolve. A management that recognizes the importance of the base and access divisions can be decisive in definitively strengthening the foundation of national football,” said Siqueira, in an interview with ge.globo .

The idea is that Série D will be reduced from 64 to 20 clubs when the project for the new competition comes to fruition. Série D would have 64 teams and a format similar to the current fourth division.

In an interview shortly after last Sunday's election (25), President Samir Xaud promised to reduce the number of dates for the State Championships from 2026 onwards.

According to Xaud, the idea is to hold the State Championships on 11 dates, but without harming the clubs. “One of the first changes is the reduction of the State Championship dates. We are planning to hold it on 11 dates starting next year. It is a simple demonstration that we really want change. We will start off on the right foot,” he said.

“We are already talking to the presidents about the dates. I don’t believe we will have any problems. The State Championships will now have to adapt to the CBF rules.”
