Tuk-tuks. EMEL recorded more than three thousand violations

The Lisbon Municipal Mobility and Parking Company (EMEL) has recorded 3,200 violations related to non-compliance with the measure banning the circulation of tuk-tuks on 337 streets in Lisbon. The news was reported by JN and the data relates to the period of time since April 1, the date on which the restriction on the circulation of these vehicles came into force .
The municipal company saw its powers expanded with the approved amendment to its statutes and now has a unit dedicated to “tuk-tuk and TVDE” which began operating in April, precisely to ensure that the measures prohibiting circulation are complied with.

The company revealed to JN that the infractions originated from “circulation on streets closed to vehicles used for tourist entertainment activities, stopping or parking in prohibited places, parking on sidewalks, traffic lanes and second lanes”.
According to the same newspaper, the overwhelming majority of these more than three thousand administrative offences directly concern tuk-tuks and occurred with greater incidence on “Avenida da Ribeira das Naus, Rua do Comércio/Rua de São Julião and Praça do Comércio”, areas with a large tourist influx in the center of Lisbon.
