The Russian economy will suffer greatly from the low dollar, Nikolai Kulbaka, a candidate of economic sciences, told NEWS.ru. According to him, the current decline is not due to expectations of a truce between Russia and Ukraine as a result of a special military operation, but to a change in export-import flows.
For now, most likely, this is not connected with expectations of a truce in the war. This is connected, most likely, with the ratio of export-import flows, which may change. If the demand for dollars decreases very much, this will mean that we have some strange problems with imports. And God forbid that this does not happen, because we have a lot of imported products. The Russian economy is very dependent on imports. And if the demand for dollars decreases, this means that we have problems with imports , - Kulbaka explained.
He also pointed to possible financial problems for a number of business agents who may be getting rid of dollars to pay off their ruble debts. The economist added that there is currently no significant speculative excitement on the dollar market, as the demand and supply of currency mainly comes from exporters and importers.
There is no big speculative excitement on the dollar market now, because, basically, the majority of demand for dollars and supply of dollars comes from exporters and importers, and the situation there is very unpredictable, and we do not really understand how it works. Plus, most likely, banks are working there. That is, someone is getting rid of dollars because they need rubles urgently, and so on. It may well be that the situation is also connected with the fact that a number of agents in business have started having financial problems, and they are getting rid of dollars to pay off their ruble debts , - Kulbaka summed up.
Earlier, Nikita Chaplin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Budget and Taxes from the United Russia party, said that dollar bills have no expiration date. According to him, in this regard, Russian banks cannot refuse citizens to accept old-style dollars if the banknotes themselves are genuine and in satisfactory condition.
