Defense of former Federation Council employee justified murder of parents by state of affect
The defense of former Federation Council employee Alexei Konovalov , convicted of a massacre of his elderly parents, attempted to justify his crime by a state of affect. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing court materials that the agency has at its disposal.
According to the defense, the former official was in a state of affect "due to the immoral behavior of the victims" and did not plan to deal with the victims. The First Court of Appeal did not agree with the lawyer's arguments and recognized the Moscow City Court's decision as lawful.
The Moscow City Court announced the verdict against Konovalov in the summer of 2024. The former Federation Council employee was found guilty of killing his parents for selfish reasons and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The former official will be sent to a maximum security penal colony to serve his sentence.
