The Marubo tribe of the Brazilian Amazon has filed a class action lawsuit against the New York Times, TMZ and Yahoo for publications they say have created a false image of a community "obsessed with technology and pornography." The lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles court, seeks hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, the Associated Press reported.
The reason was a NYT report about how connecting to Starlink allegedly led to addiction to social media and porn among the tribe's residents. Later, the authors partially refuted their findings, and Elon Musk also came out in defense of the Marubo.
Now the tribe is seeking damages for defamation and racist stereotypes.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Defense is demanding that Russian Railways pay more than 30 million rubles in new claims.
