The famous pyramid of Cheops was built not by slaves, as was believed for many years, but by skilled workers, Egyptologist Zahi Hawass reported.
He noted that archaeologists had found evidence that confirmed their hypothesis. In particular, this concerns burials discovered near the building. The remains of workers were found, as indicated by statues with 21 hieroglyphs. Some of which are deciphered as "craftsman".
"This confirms that the builders were not slaves. If they were slaves, they would never have been buried in the shadow of the pyramids," Hawass explained.
According to the Egyptologist, the workers were united into teams by specialization. Some cut the stone, others cut it, and others acted as delivery men for the building materials. According to Hawass, the stone blocks were moved on wooden sleds, which they dragged through the sand. He also reported that the workers took a day off once every 10 days.
